Tampa, Fla. (July 2, 2008) – The New York Yankees of the American League signed former Saint Leo University baseball player Yunior Tabares (Tampa, Fla.) to a free agent contract on June 20, 2008. The outfielder/first baseman has been assigned to Tampa of the Gulf Coast Rookie League.

Bristol, Tenn. (June 27, 2008) – Former Saint Leo University baseball player Shane Buriff (Lutz, Fla.) signed a free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox on Monday, June 16 and reported to Bristol, Tenn. to join the Bristol White Sox of the Appalachian League (Rookie).

Reidy announced the appointment of Russ McNickle as the new head baseball coach for the Lions.  McNickle previously served as assistant coach at Mississippi State University, and will become the 14th coach in program history.

(June 18, 2008) - The Saint Leo University men’s soccer team has unveiled its schedule for the 2008 season.  The Lions will play nine home matches and eight road matches during the 2008 campaign, which will kick off on Thursday, August 28 with a home match versus Montreat College (7:30 p.m.).

Lawrence, Kan. (June 18, 2008) – Saint Leo University men’s cross country runner and swimmer Javier Beuzeville (Fr., Tampa, Fla.) finished first in the Javelin Ironman 70.3 Collegiate Championship presented by adidas in Lawrence, Kan. this past weekend.  As a result of his winning time, Beuzeville qualified for the 2008 Ford 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater Florida this November.
